Good Student has a thesis statement included in their introduction, but it is unclear or does not ascribe to the attributes of a thesis statement.	Fair The student's thesis statement may be attempted, be in the wrong spot, or extremely unclear. The student may have an introduction, but no thesis statement.	Poor The student has not written an introduction or thesis statement.
5 Paragraphs	Excellent Student has written a full, 5-paragraph essay.	Good The student has written 4 paragraphs	Fair The student has written 3 paragraphs	Poor The student has written 2 or less paragraphs.
Description	Excellent The student uses vivid imagery and description in their narrative.	Good The student uses description, but has room to improve to be more clear.	Fair The student attempts to describe in their narrative, but may not use adjectives correctly.	Poor The essay has no description.
Dialogue	Excellent The student has correctly used dialogue in their narrative.	Good The student uses dialogue, but it is done incorrectly.	Fair The student attempts dialogue, but does not understand how to use it.	Poor There is no dialogue in the narrative.
Conclusion	Excellent The narrative has a clear, cohesive conclusion to the narrative.	Good The narrative has a conclusion, but may not be cohesive to the story or may repeat what has already been said verbatim.	Fair The conclusion is attempted, but non-cohesive or repetitive.	Poor There is no conclusion in the narrative.
