Good The poem has the correct number of lines, but does not flow smoothly and/or is not broken correctly.	Needs Improvement The poem does not have the correct number of lines and/or does not flow smoothly.
Word Choice/Style	Excellent Writer uses many vivid words and phrases that linger or draw pictures in the reader's mind, and the choice and placement of the words seems accurate, natural and not forced.	Good Writer uses vivid words and phrases that linger or draw pictures in the reader's mind, but the words may be used inaccurately or seem overdone.	Needs Improvement Writer uses a limited vocabulary that does not communicate strongly or capture the reader's interest.
Spelling and grammar	Excellent	Good Writer makes no errors in capitalization, punctuation, spelling or grammar, so the poem is exceptionally easy to read.	Needs Improvement Writer makes several errors that catch the reader's attention and greatly interrupt the flow.
Rhyming scheme	Excellent	Good Has used a good rhyming scheme.	Needs Improvement Rhyming scheme does not always make sense.
