2. Identify self to resident/patient
3. Explain to resident/patient that you need a moment to wash hands
4. Identify patient/resident using arm band
5. Addresses resident/patient by name (Mr., Miss, Mrs & Last Name)
6. Explains procedure and asks permission to perform procedure
7. Obtains equipment
8. Provides for privacy

1. Removes jewelry.
2. Turn water on Warm
3. Rinse hands wrist down
4. Apply soap
5. Lather for 20 seconds
6. Clean Fingernails
7. Rinse hands pointing downward
8. Pats hands dry
9. Use clean paper towel to turn off water.

1. Assists client to a position of comfort
2. Ensure signaling device is within client’s reach
3. Leaves bed in low position
4. Ensure bed wheels are locked
5. Remove privacy screen
6. Washes hands
7. Document procedure
