Poor

Student did not complete required research and/or assignments. Student contributed little or nothing at all to the overall activity. Student does not answer any cross-examination questions appropriately. Student had unexcused absences.

Student demonstrates outstanding understanding of character's text evidence, talks clearly, loud enough for all to hear; was confident in their responses; answered all questions effectively; rarely or did not use notes.

Student demonstrates adequate understanding of character's text evidence, spoke clearly most of the time; was loud enough most of the time; was confident in their responses most of the time; answered most of the questions effectively; used notes at times.
Average

Student shows minimal understanding of text evidence; Student mumbled at times; spoke quietly some of the time; at times lacked confidence; did not answer all of the questions or was ineffective in answering a question; used notes often.
Poor

Student answers only in yes or no answers; was difficult to hear; student was not confident; student did not answer questions; used notes most of the time.
