Composition

Advanced

Drawing fills 95% or more of the page, there is a center of interest, and it is a cityscape. Overlapping is evident as is a higher degree of complexity.
Accomplished

Drawing fills 85-95% of the page, has a center of interest, and is a cityscape. Overlapping is evident as is a degree of complexity.
Apprentice

Drawing fills 70-85% of the page, may or may not have a center of interest, attempts a cityscape. Very little overlapping is evident as is a lower degree of complexity.
Novice

Drawing fills less than 70% of the page, does not have a center of interest and may not appear as a cityscape. Little to no overlapping is evident and the design is very simplistic.
Two-Point Perspective

Advanced

Drawing shows complete understanding of two-point perspective. Lines were drawn with a ruler to the vanishing points, no evidence of mistakes.
Accomplished

Drawing shows adequate understanding of two-point perspective. Lines were drawn with a ruler with evidence of just a few minor mistakes.
Apprentice

Drawing shows some misunderstanding of the two-point perspective technique. Many minor mistakes or a few major mistakes are evident; lines may not have been drawn with a ruler or may not have gone to the vanishing points.
Novice

Drawing shows very little understanding of the two-point perspective technique, has many major mistakes. Very little use of a ruler.
Value

Advanced

Clearly and consistently shows varying values (highlights to shadows/cast shadows) from one light source. Consistently shows 5 or more different values of shading (well modulated!). Values are blended smoothly and show gradual gradation.
Accomplished

Showed 3-4 values of shading. Missing some areas of darkest value (shadow/cast shadow). Some areas of value are not blended as smoothly or show a less gradual gradation.
Apprentice

Showed little range of values (1-3). Much of the drawing has no shading on it. Much of the drawing is smeared together, making it all one value.
Novice

Little to no shading is apparent. Composition is more about line and not value.
Effort

Advanced

The student put forth extraordinary effort to complete the project as well as possible; used class time extremely well.
Accomplished

The student put forth the effort required to complete the project well; used class time well.
Apprentice
