Historical Monologue Historical Monologue Students will write a monologue from the perspective of a person living during pre-Confederation in one of the British North American colonies. Story Development	Fair = 2 The monologue lacks a beginning, middle and end. Wording is random and unconnected.	Good = 3 The monologue has a beginning, middle and end. Use of language is effective but more edits may be needed.	Excellent = 4 The monologue has a clear beginning, middle and end. Excellent use of language.
Historical Figure's Voice	Fair = 2 Script's language rarely reflects character history. Speech patterns, slang and style are not utilized. Speech reads as a narrative and does not create a historical moment in time.	Good = 3 Script's language somewhat reflects character's background. Speech patterns and styles are occasionally utilized. The world of the character is emerging.	Excellent = 4 Script's language clearly reflects character's status. Specific speech patterns, slang and style are utilized, creating a historical moment in time.
Character View	Fair = 2 The monologue employs little if any dialogue to convey character's view on Confederation. Any details given are vague and not relevant to chosen colony.	Good = 3 The monologue uses some dialogue to convey the character's view on Confederation. There are one to two specific examples that give detailed support for viewpoint.	Excellent = 4 The monologue efficiently uses dialogue to convey the character's view on Confederation. There are more than three specific details and events given that support the character's viewpoint.
Research	Fair = 2 The speech shows little research and is lacking in details about a historical moment in time.	Good = 3 The speech is based on some research and includes some details about a historical moment in time with some information and details that show who and what kind of person your historical figure is without having to tell people.	Excellent = 4 The speech is well researched and includes many details about a historical moment in time in addition to an abundance of information and details that show who and what kind of person your historical figure is without having to tell people.
Self-Reflection	Fair = 2 Student completed the reflection with minimal detail.	Good = 3 Student completed the reflection with adequate detail. Minimal requirements were met.	Excellent = 4 Student completed the reflection with great detail. Went beyond minimal requirements.
