Using letter sounds

Below the Standard

Has difficulty with all letter sounds will stop and will need assistance or to be told the letter sounds or words by the teacher.
Approaching the Standard

The student may need some assistance but is able to self correct and needs help less than half of the time using letter sounds to say words.
Meets the Standard

The student is able to self correct and has 1-4 miscues when reading letter sounds or using sounds to say words.
Exceeds the Standard

The student is able to pronounce all letter sounds and read all words accurately with no miscues.
Comprehension qustions

Below the Standard

The student has difficulty answering comprehension questions and needs additional assistance and prompts to answer teacher questions.
Approaching the Standard

The student may need some assistance to answer questions posed my teacher or additional prompts on less than half of the questions asked of the student.
Meets the Standard

The student is able anser most questions and may need additional prompting on 1-2 questions.
Exceeds the Standard

The student is able to answer all comprehension questions and requires no prompting fromt the teacher.
Reading aloud

Below the Standard

The student has difficulty following along with the text. The student stops multiple times and has multiple unknown words and these words are told by the teacher.
Approaching the Standard

The student may stop stop and will need assistance on some words by knows over half the words in the text and relies on the teacher to prompt the student or tell the the word for the unknown words.
Meets the Standard

The student is able to independently read the text and stops infrequently and is able to use letter sounds to read unknown words and has few words told to them by the teacher.
Exceeds the Standard

The student is able to independently read the text of the story without stoping for unknown words.
Writing

Below the Standard

The student is able to write with prompts from the teacher and copies writing off of the teacher example.
Approaching the Standard

The student is able to write with prompts, may look at the teacher example, but is able to generate independent writing for sections on more than half of the story map.
Meets the Standard

The student independently generates writing for the story map and may rely on the prompting or the teacher example 1-2 times for each story map
Exceeds the Standard

The student is able to independently write all of the sections of the story map and does not rely on prompts or the teacher example.
