VOICE & FLUENCY
Poor
The student's voice is soft and can not be heard by the audience. There is no voice inflection.
The student has noticeable pauses between words and struggles with proper pronunciation. The student restarts multiple times.
Fair
The student can be heard but is at times quite soft and not audible. There is some or very little voice inflection.
The student takes minimal pauses or breaks. Mispronounces 1-2 words.
Good
The student can be heard but is soft and not audible. There is some or very little voice inflection.
The student recited the poem with reasonable pauses that do not interfere with the natural flow of the writing.
Excellent
The student is loud enough to be heard and uses voice inflection to enhance his or her piece. The audience feels more connected because of inflection.
The student's recitation of the speech is natural; no unwarranted pauses.
SPEAKS CLEARLY
Poor
Often mumbles or cannot be understood OR mispronounces more than one word.
Fair
Speaks clearly and distinctly most (85%-94%) of the time, but mispronounces no more than one word
Good
Speaks clearly and distinctly all (95%-100%) of the time, but mispronounces no more than one word
Excellent
Speaks clearly and distinctly all (95%-100%) of the time, and does not mispronounce any of the words
BODY LANGUAGE
Poor
The student rocks sways or leans against a wall or other object. He or she lacks practice or effort. No eye contact with the audience (cam).
Fair
Slouches and/or does not look at the audience (cam) during the presentation.
Good
The student may sway, rock, or use inappropriate body language, but makes an attempt to connect with the audience. Effective eye contact with the audience (cam).
Excellent
The student's movements are practiced and planned. All of his or her movements enhance the literary piece. Outstanding eye contact with the audience (cam)
COSTUME
Poor
The student's costume is irrelevant to the character portrayed.
Fair
The student's costume is a bit irrelevant to the character portrayed.
Good
The student's costume is somewhat relevant to the character portrayed.
Excellent
The student's costume is relevant to the character he/ she portrayed.
