Response Quality	Level 4 Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic. Student includes personal opinions, thoughts and feelings in the response	Level 3 Responses are well developed and remain on-topic for the most part.	Level 2 Responses are somewhat developed and remain on-topic some of the time.	Level 1 Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic.
Connections	Level 4 Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 3 out of 4 times.	Level 3 Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 2 out of 4 times.	Level 2 Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 1 out of 4 times.	Level 1 Student makes no attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection.
