Stickings Is the student using the correct stickings? Student will be expected to write down and perform with the correct stickings.	Exemplary All stickings are correct.	Proficient All stickings are written correctly, but student plays at least one sticking incorrectly.	Developing At least one error in both writing and performing stickings.	Emerging Three or more stickings are incorrect in either writing or performing.
Rhythmic Accuracy Is the student playing the correct rhythms?	Exemplary All rhythms are played correctly.	Proficient All but one rhythms are correct.	Developing All but two or three rhythms are correct.	Emerging Four or more rhythms are incorrect.
Steady Beat and Tempo Is the student playing with an even, appropriate steady beat? Tempo is determined by teacher's ability to tap steady beat along with student performance.	Exemplary Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat.	Proficient Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 90% of the time.	Developing Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 75% of the time; some note values are uneven, and it is difficult at times to determine tempo.	Emerging Student does not play with a steady beat; note values are uneven and tempo cannot be determined.
Rudiments Does the student accurately perform rudiments such as flams and rolls?	Exemplary Student accurately performs all rudiments.	Proficient All but one rudiments are performed correctly.	Developing All but two rudiments all performed correctly; student struggles with certain rudiments.	Emerging Three or more rudiments are performed incorrectly; student struggles with performing rudiments.
Technique Does the student perform with appropriate technique? This includes proper stick grip, proper stick position, proper wrist position, and stick height.	Exemplary Student performs with proper technique.	Proficient Student performs with proper technique at least 90% of the time; may have difficulty with one specific technique.	Developing Student performs with proper technique at least 75% of the time; may have difficulty with one or more specific techniques.	Emerging Student does not perform with proper technique, and has difficulty with multiple areas of technique.
