Developing

Student plays with an even, appropriate steady beat at least 75% of the time; some note values are uneven, and it is difficult at times to determine tempo.

Student does not play with a steady beat; note values are uneven and tempo cannot be determined.
Rudiments

Does the student accurately perform rudiments such as flams and rolls?

Exemplary

Student accurately performs all rudiments.
Proficient

All but one rudiments are performed correctly.

All but two rudiments all performed correctly; student struggles with certain rudiments.

Three or more rudiments are performed incorrectly; student struggles with performing rudiments.
Technique

Does the student perform with appropriate technique? This includes proper stick grip, proper stick position, proper wrist position, and stick height.

Student performs with proper technique at least 90% of the time; may have difficulty with one specific technique.

Student performs with proper technique at least 75% of the time; may have difficulty with one or more specific techniques.
