Change for challenging behaviors 
This rubric scores the student on number of behavioral episodes, the intensity of behavioral episodes and the ability to self regulate during situations. It is scored so that the higher the percentage, the more frequent, intense the behavior and the less self-regulation used. Goal is to decrease the challenging behavior.

Excellent

Able to express her feelings and needs before showing any challenging behaviors.
Good

Exhibits some of the behaviors but without tears or refusal. (e.g. will be the last to put her work in the mailbox and come to the rug, will not stand for the pedge w/out reminder)
Improving

Presents challenging behavior without attention seeking. (e.g. colors instead of writes, will not participate when called on, will show mad face but continues to follow the routines in the classroom)
Fair

Presents challenging behavior with intensity and attention seeking behavior. (loud crying, arms folded and pouting face, work untouched but not verbally refused) 1 time/day
Poor

Presents challenging behavior with extreme intensity and attention seeking to behavior
(e.g. screams and cries loudly, sits with arms folded and a scowl on her face, refuses to do work)
1+ times/day
Self-regulation

Excellent

Calms self or self isolates almost daily
Good

Calms self or self isolates 4-5 times per week.
Improving

Calms self or self isolates 1-3 times per week.
Fair

Requires external cues to calm self or to move to a safe place to calm self 1 time per day.
Poor

Requires external cues to calm self or to move to a safe place to calm self more than 1 time per day.
