Latin Jazz Choreography Project

Students will perform piece of learned choreography that displays jazz and Latin jazz technique. Students will also add 2 counts of 8 of relevant material to the choreography in small groups of 4-5.

Salsa Step	Maybe Next Time Dancer did not perform salsa step, nor a step that looked like the salsa step. May have sat out or stood waiting for the next move.	Needs Improvement Dancer did not perform 3 step movement needed in order to do a salsa step. May have done two steps or a shuffle of the feet.	Almost There Dancer did a movement that looked like the salsa step, but may have been missing a step on the right or left side.	Got it! Dancer performed the salsa step correctly on right, left, or both sides. Dancer's next step will be to add the hip accents in order to give the Salsa desired Latin flavor.	Above and Beyond Dancer performed the salsa step correctly on both right and left side and even added hip movements to accentuate their steps.
Right Saut de Chat	Maybe Next Time Dancer did not attempt saut de chat.	Needs Improvement Dancer did not leave the ground in their saut de chat, may have taken a big step in place of the jump.	Almost There Dancer left the ground for their saut de chat, but may not have used plie, pointed feet and developpe leg. Their upper body may have been slumped over, arms may not have been in fourth position.	Got it! Dancer had correct fourth position arms and developed their right let into the saut de chat. Dancer needs to work on using their plie to get more lift in their jump.	Above and Beyond Dancer had correct arms and technique for their saut de chat, and used their plie to get higher into their jump.
Knowledge of Choreography	Maybe Next Time Dancer knew very little to no choreography.	Needs Improvement Dancer knew minimal choreography, and may have watched another dancer throughout the dance in order to perform the choreography.	Almost There Dancer knew some of the choreography, but needs to clean up some sections.	Got it! Dancer knew most to all choreography of the dance. May have struggled for a brief moment or behind the beat during the dance.	Above and Beyond Dancer knew all of the choreography and timing of the dance. Dancer would be confident enough in the material to perform on their own.
Effort During Rehearsal Time	Maybe Next Time Dancer participated very little when creating choreography with their group. Dancer may have sat out and watched, or taken trips to dressing room while their group was working.	Needs Improvement Dancer showed some interest in participating with their group, but lack of energy while they were working. May have "marked" the dance while their group practiced. May have sat out some of the time.	Almost There Dancer showed fair amount of interest and motivation while creating choreography with their group. Dancer may have had one 'off' day where they showed little effort in being involved with their group.	Got it! Dancer participated a majority of the time on the group project and most of the time did not mark the dance while their group worked.	Above and Beyond Dancer participated with high motivation and energy during rehearsal time. Dancer never sat out and never marked the dance.
2 Additional Counts of 8 Complete	Maybe Next Time Student's group did not add any choreography to the dance.	Needs Improvement Students added some choreography to the dance, but it did not meet the 2 eight count minimum, and may not have been relevant to the theme of the dance.	Almost There Students almost added appropriate 2 counts of 8 to the choreography.	Got it! Students added appropriate 2 counts of 8 to the choreography, but material may not have been relevant to the dance. Added choreography may not have had proper transition from learned choreography.	Above and Beyond Added choreography was appropriate in length and there was a fluid transition from learned choreography to new.
