Poetry Rubric Poetry Rubric We have studies four types of poetry in class. You will compose on of each type. 3 cinquains, 1 haiku, 1 limerick, and 1 ABC Rubric Code: R9W3W2 By WandaAdams Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: English Type: Writing Grade Levels: 6-8

Poetry Chapbook
	Level One 1 pts	Level Two 2 pts	Level Three 3 pts	Level Four 5 pts
Word Usage	Level One Student’s use of vocabulary is very basic.	Level Two Student’s use of vocabulary is more telling than showing.	Level Three Student’s use of vocabulary is routine and workable.	Level Four Student’s use of vocabulary is precise, vivid, and paints a strong clear and complete picture in the reader’s mind.
Form	Level One Poem is not written in the proper forms, ultimately diminishing the poetic value of the writer's collection.	Level Two Poem is somewhat written in the proper forms, while others stray significantly or are written as prose.	Level Three Poem is mostly written in the proper forms.	Level Four Poem is complete and follows its intended form.
Language Conventions Spelling, punctuation, grammar.	Level One There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the poem difficult to understand. Puncutation is used incorrectly.	Level Two The poet's intended meaning is muddled by several spelling or grammar errors. Punctuation may be misused.	Level Three A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.	Level Four Proper use of spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.
Effort	Level One Student’s work lacks understanding of the assignment.	Level Two Student’s work demonstrates some understanding of the assignment.	Level Three Student’s work demonstrates an understanding of the assignment.	Level Four Student’s work demonstrates a complete understanding of the assignment.
