Memorable and Motivational Mantras

Students were expected to develop mantras/inspirational sayings that can be used by themselves, as well as others during times of difficulty.

Criteria for Mantra Must be inspirational, use language creatively, invoke emotion through the use of language, and easy to remember.
	Inspiring and Motivating! Student was able to produce a mantra that was inspirational, motivational and memorable 4 pts	Motivated to Inspire Student produced a mantra that was moderately inspirational, moderately motivational, and memorable 3 pts	Aspiring to Inspire Student produced a mantra that was fairly inspirational, fairly motivational, and not very memorable. 2 pts	Needs to be Motivated to Inspire Student did not produce a mantra OR student did not produce a mantra that was inspiring, motivating and memorable. 1 pts
Word Strength The power of the words used strengthens the emphasis of the mantra	Inspiring and Motivating! Very well-developed because of the strong use of vocabulary. It engages the reader and invokes a particular emotion.	Motivated to Inspire Moderately well-developed mantra because of the use of vocabulary, but could have been stronger if other words had been used. The mantra sparks a particular emotion in the reader.	Aspiring to Inspire There is an attempt to use vocabulary that invokes emotion in the reader.	Needs to be Motivated to Inspire The student did not use vocabulary that enhanced the strength of what they were trying to state. There is no emotion in this student's work. Work was not submitted.
Theme A key message that is identifiable in the mantra. The theme should invoke a particular emotion in the reader.	Inspiring and Motivating! There is a central theme in the mantra. The theme is vivid through the organization of the words. Because the theme is evident, the reader should be moved emotionally.	Motivated to Inspire There is an identifiable theme in the mantra. The theme is evident but could be stronger and more noticeable. There may be less of the desired emotion in the reader.	Aspiring to Inspire There are too many thoughts or attempts at different themes in the mantra. A central theme is not evident. The desired motion may not be present in the reader after reading this mantra.	Needs to be Motivated to Inspire There is no theme in the mantra. There was no mantra.
Mechanics &Overall Style Correct spelling, correct grammar, and capitalization are an integral part of having an effective mantra.	Inspiring and Motivating! No errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, or capitalization.	Motivated to Inspire A few minor errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, or capitalization, but they do not detract from the overall meaning and effectiveness of the mantra.	Aspiring to Inspire A few errors in punctuation, grammar, spelling, and capitalization that, while distracting, the meaning and intent of the mantra can still be discerned.	Needs to be Motivated to Inspire The mantra had many errors in punctuation, grammar, spelling and capitalization. There was no mantra, therefore there was no spelling.
