History This rubric describes the requirements for students to meet in order to complete the assignment.
	Excellent-A 4 pts	Good-B 3 pts	Average-C 2 pts	Poor-D 1 pts
Introduction of Essay Topic Statement: Explains subject; Defines time periods involved; Locations.	Excellent-A Contains quality information. Shows exceptional research was performed by the student.	Good-B Contains good detail and shows good research was performed by the student.	Average-C Contains fair detail and shows some time was spent on research by the student.	Poor-D Contains little detail and shows that little time was spent on research by the student.
Body of Essay Each paragraph has a topic sentence relating to the thesis, focused on paragraph topic, contains supporting evidence.	Excellent-A Sentence structure, spelling and grammar appear correct. Information is well presented and the essay reads easily and can be understood by the reader.	Good-B Sentence structure, spelling and grammar appear correct, but up to four errors are apparent. Information is well presented and the essay reads easily and can be understood by the reader.	Average-C Sentence structure, spelling and grammar appear correct, but more than 5 to 10 errors are apparent. Information can be understood by the reader, but the essay does not read well.	Poor-D Sentence structure, spelling and grammar appear correct, but more than 10 errors are apparent. Information presented in the essay may not be understood by the reader.
Conclusion - Restates the thesis Summarizes main ideas.	Excellent-A The student presented excellent summary to the essay assignment.	Good-B The student presented good summary to the essay assignment.	Average-C The student presented an average summary to the essay assignment.	Poor-D The student presented a poor summary to the essay assignment.
Citations	Excellent-A five or more citations were used.	Good-B three citations were used	Average-C two citation is used	Poor-D one citation is used
