Yearbook Spread Evaluation 
Students will acquire all of the elements necessary to produce a yearbook spread. All elements will be placed on spread and styles will be applied. Spreads will still be subject to editing, adviser's approval and minor revisions if necessary.

Captions & Copy

Every photo must have a caption and captions should follow ABCD format. Captions not in this format need to be discussed with adviser (special cases).

Excellent

Every photo has a well organized caption that vividly describes what is going on in the photo.
Good

Most of the photos have a caption or all photos have captions, but one of the captions is missing important information.
Fair

Some of the photos have captions or more than 1 caption is missing important information.
Poor

Fewer than half of the photos have captions or more than half of the captions fail to follow the requirements.
Stories

Your spread(s) should include a story. Stories should include quotes.
Spreads without stories should have at least one block of copy that ties the spread together.

Excellent

Spread has at least one story. Copy is in past tense and has an adequate number of quotes and facts. Copy has obviously been proof read and has NO errors.
Good

Spreads has at least one story with adequate quotes and facts. Copy may need work but is close to publishable.
Fair

Only 1 story present. Copy needs work -in need of completion of major revisions.
Poor

Spread lacks copy. No stories present.
Photographs

A good spread has an obvious dominant image and enough other photos to tell the story. ALL original photos - NONE copied from the Internet.

Excellent

Spread has a sufficient number of photographs to produce a quality spread, including an obvious dominant image.
Good

Spread may have a sufficient number of photographs to produce a quality spread but not an obvious dominant image or may have an obvious dominant but not enough photos for a quality layout.
Fair

Spread lacks a sufficient number of photographs to produce a quality spread and/or an obvious dominant image.
Poor

Obvious lack of photographs.
Mods/Sidebars

Every spread needs at least ONE mod/sidebar related to the spread. All sidebar material is on the spread.

Excellent

Spread has at least two creative and relevant mods/sidebars.
Good

Mods/sidebar material is incomplete or missing one mod/sidebar.
Fair

Spread is missing a mod/sidebar and one is incomplete
Poor

Spread is missing mods/sidebars.
Applying Styles

Copy style applied. Caption style applied. Styles have not been altered.

Excellent

Copy style applied. Caption style applied. Styles have not been altered.
Good

Error in 1 of the styles.
Fair

Error in 2 of the styles.
Poor

Error in more than 2 styles.
Theme

Theme is evident.

Excellent

Theme is evident in the body copy.
Good

An effort was made, theme can be inferred.
Fair

Effort was made, but theme is not clear.
Poor

No effort was made to include the theme.
Time On Task

Spread was turned in on time.

Excellent

Student spent class time effectively. Also worked outside of class. Spread was turned in on time. Student took adequate pictures for the spread or took the responsibility to gather pictures from other sources.
Good

Student spent most of class time on task. One day late or one warning.
Fair

Student only spent some of class time on task. 2 days late or 2 warnings.
Poor

Did not spend adequate time working on task. More than two days late or detention.
