ART 2-D - Exploring Line Through Aboriginal Designs

In this lesson students will learn about one of the most important elements in painting and drawing: line. Students will learn how line is defined in the visual arts, and how to recognize this element in drawing and painting.

Students have reproduced all the lines found in their Aboriginal Art Design and can name the five major line types.	Supported The art work is planned adequately; understanding of some concepts and instructions shown. Students have reproduced most of the lines found in their Aboriginal Art Design and can name the five major line types.	Participatory The artwork shows little evidence of understanding the concepts and instructions. Students have reproduced most of the lines found in their Aboriginal Art Design and can name the four of the five major line types. Creativity/ Line Quality 5 pts Inventiveness, expression of ideas and imagination.	Independent and Advanced The artwork demonstrates some personal expression. Sensitivity of line was used to describe expression. Variation in line was consistently shown throughout the drawing. Color has been used consistently through out the drawing and is skillfully done.	Supported The artwork demonstrates an average amount of personal expression. Line was drawn with sensitivity, variation and was patiently applied in some areas but was not consistent; some sketchy lines used. Color has been used well, some areas need more attention.	Participatory The artwork demonstrates little personal expression. Line was sometimes drawn with sensitivity and variation but was not consistent or was impatiently applied in some areas; sketchy lines used. Color application is messy, yet consistent through out the images.	Need Improvement The artwork lacks evidence of personal expression.
