Composition

Students will recall their knowledge from

Poor

Photograph does not demonstrate visual interest and creativity in composition and subject matter. Photograph was taken randomly with no evidence that consideration was given to the objects in the background. The POV distorts subject and detracts from photo.
Fair

Photograph demonstrates little visual interest and creativity in composition and subject matter. Students may not have thought about the placement of things in the picture, though a main object may be identifiable.
Good

Photograph demonstrates some visual interest and creativity in composition and subject matter. Students thought about the details of the photographs and what should be included in it. Students were aware of the background. The POV seems to have been considered and adds to photo interest.
Excellent

Photograph demonstrates exceptional visual interest and creativity in composition and subject matter. Student gave great consideration as to what to include and demonstrated awareness of the details in the photographs, whether in the background or the main subject in the picture. The POV dramatically improves the photo and draws interest to the subject.
Lighting/Contrast

Students will use lighting to enhance the product, and draw the view to the subject (product). Light should be focused on the product and calling direct attention to the light.

Poor

The photo is underexposed or overexposed and content cannot
be identified. Lighting does not highlight the product, but instead another subject matter.
Fair

The photo is dark or light and content is difficult to see.
Good

Light improves the photo’s visibility, clarity, contrast and value.
Excellent

Light improves and enhances the photo’s visibility, clarity,
contrast and value. Lighting does highlight the product, and sets the image for it to be the main subject. Student experimented with lighting techniques, not all lighting was the same.
Effort

Students brainstormed, tried new techniques, took multiple images, worked multiple days on the assignment, asked for help, used different lighting tools, used diferent backgrounds, etc.

Poor

It is not evident that anything was the subject matter and what it communicates is not evident. Photos submitted did not fulfill lesson requirements and/or did not show any kind of effort. All of the photos of the product on its own or with people are exactly the same.
Fair

Students had a subject matter in mind when they took their picture, but fell short in communicating to the viewer. Two or more photos do not meet requirements. Some of the photos of the product on its own or with people are exactly the same.
Good

Students gave some thought about the subject matter and how it may work to communicate an idea or feeling. Fulfilled lesson requirements with enthusiasm but were not all that original.
Excellent

Students gave great thought into how to communicate an idea or feeling through their photograph. It is evident that the student had something specific in mind that they were trying to achieve. Fulfilled lesson requirements with originality and enthusiasm.
Storyboard

Students are to complete a storyboard for inspiration either on their iPad or by hand. There should be a minimum of 5 images included, 3 of those images are of the product on its own and 2 must be of the product with people.

Poor

No storyboard submitted at all
Fair

2 or less photos submitted
Good

3-4 photos submitted
Excellent

Complete storyboard/brainstorming was submitted
