Oral Medication Administration Oral Medication Administration A satisfactory score is required. If the student has four or less on "Needs Development" he or she will have the opportunity to explain the corrective action in post simulation debriefing. If greater than four "needs development", the student will need to remediate the skill with a scheduled lab appointment. Tablets/Capsules If pouring from a multi-dose bottle pours the tablets/capsules into the bottle lid before placing in a medication soufflé cup, If obtaining tablet/capsule from a punch pack, places the medication soufflé cup behind the pack foil before punching the tablet/capsule through, and If opening an individual pill container, gently pulls the backing from the packaging and pours the tablet/capsule into a medication soufflé cup.	Unsatisfactory Fails to correctly open and prepare any tablets/capsules from the pill bottle or packaging.	Needs development Correctly opens and prepares some tablets/capsules from the pill bottle or packaging but incorrectly opens and prepares some tablets/capsules from the pill bottle or packaging. Liquid Medications Sets the liquid medication cap upright on the medication cart, holds the liquid bottle with the label against the palm of the hand, places the plastic medication cup on a flat surface at eye level, and Wipes the neck of the bottle with a tissue and reapplies the bottle top.	Unsatisfactory Does not follow any of the criterion for preparing liquid medications.	Needs development Follows several of the criterion outlined for preparing liquid medications.	Satisfactory Follows all of the criterion for preparing liquid medications.
Assists patient to take medication. Uses problem solving as required. Re-positions patient if necessary. Holds water and/ or medication if required. Assists patient to place medication in mouth as required.	Unsatisfactory Learner does not stay with patient to assist with taking the medication.	Needs development Learner stays with the patient but does not employ problem solving to assist the patient to ingest the medication as required.
