Simple Addition facts
	Developing 4 pts	Secure 5 pts	Beginning 3 pts	Not Yet 2 pts
Understand the Concept of Addition	Developing Shows that they can perform the task, but occasionally they need more help from the teacher.	Secure Is able to independently perform this task in the majority of problems given.	Beginning Is beginning to show they are able to perform the addition facts, but requires individual attention.	Not Yet Is very dependent upon the teacher to help with this task.
Counting	Developing Independently counts with 1-1 correspondence without organizing manipulatives or units.	Secure Independently uses 1-1 correspondence and/or can recognize value without counting.	Beginning Counts with 1-1 correspondence, but has slight confusion in organizing counters. May over or under count units.	Not Yet Needs encouragement and help to organize counters/unit to use 1-1 correspondence. Needs direct supervison of teacher.
Symbol recognition	Developing Can independently recognize addition symbols but may have trouble switching between vocabulary terms.	Secure Independently recognizes, names, and writes symbols of addition problems: (+), (=)<BR> Independently switches between vocabulary: plus/and, makes/equals	Beginning Usually needs some help identifying symbols and/or vocabulary terms.	Not Yet Depends heavily on teacher to identify and name addition symbols.
