Grading Criteria for French Speaking Test 
The Speaking assignment combines all the knowledge and skills learned throughout the course and is the final assessment in the French course: Making a booking using the time and date. It is differentiated but the criteria are the same and learners should be able to gain full marks even if they chose the Lower difficulty task.

Student was difficult to understand and had a hard time communicating his/her ideas and responses because of grammar mistakes.

Student was able to express his/her ideas and responses adequately but often displayed inconsistencies with grammar
Merit

Student was able to express his/her ideas and responses fairly well but makes mistakes, however is able to correct themselves.
Excellent

Student was able to express his/herideas and responses with ease in proper grammatical structures
3. Pronunciation

Unsatisfactory

Student was difficult to understand, quiet in speaking, unclear in pronunciation.
Pass

Student was slightly unclear with pronunciation at times, but generally is fair.
Merit

Pronunciation was good and did not interfere with communication
Excellent

Pronunciation was very clear and easy to understand.
4. Fluency

Unsatisfactory

Speech is very slow, stumbling, nervous, and uncertain with response, except for short or memorized expressions. Difficult for a listener to understand
Pass

Speech is slow and often hesitant and irregular. Sentences may be left uncompleted, but the student is able to continue.
Merit

Speech is mostly smooth but with some hesitation and unevenness caused primarily by rephrasing and groping for words.
Excellent

Speech is effortless and smooth with speed that comes close to that of a native speaker.
5. Vocabulary and structures

Unsatisfactory

Student had inadequate vocabulary words and insufficient use of structures to express his/her ideas properly, which hindered responses.
Pass

Student was able to use broad vocabulary words but was lacking in using relevant structures, making him/her repetitive and cannot expand on his/her ideas using relevant structures.
Merit

Student utilized the words and structures, in an accurate manner for the situation given.
Excellent

Rich, precise and impressive usage of vocabulary words learned in units 1 to 3 and beyond the course.
