Main Idea and Supporting Details Main Idea and Supporting Details Students will complete a graphic organizer to demonstrate knowledge of main idea and supporting detail while using a text. The main idea and details will be the focus of the graphic organizer and the supporting details will be evidence. The students will include at least three supporting details. Main Idea	Poor The main idea is not written completely or neatly and contains many grammatical errors	Fair The main idea is on the graphic organizer and may contain few grammatical errors.	Excellent The main idea is a complete thought and is clearly visible on the graphic organizer in neat handwriting. It is labeled and easy to identify with little to no grammatical errors.
Supporting Detail 1	Poor The supporting detail is not included.	Fair The supporting detail may not be the most supportive evidence from the article. The detail is labeled but may be messy and difficult to read.	Excellent The supporting detail is strong and evidence of the main idea proving it true.<BR> The detail is labeled and easy to see on the graphic organizer .
