3 Minute Script and Performance Project Rubric 
Students will create an original script as a final project. The script will address the social justice issue of their book reading, however, there must be original dialogue and address the character's need for change. The final draft must be typed in proper script format. The script must be a minimum of 5 minutes in final performance format.

What quality is the content of the script?

Excellent

The script is dynamic, engaging, and original. The student created a unique and well-developed story using a direct quote and social theme as the foundation.
Good

The script is original and interesting using a direct quote and social theme as the foundation, though some parts may not have been fully developed or explored.
Fair

Much of the script was not developed or thought out well. Though the student had some original ideas, some of the content did not use a direct quote and social theme as the foundation.
Poor

The script is not original, nor does it use a direct quote or social theme as the foundation. It is not developed, and does not hold the audience's attention.
Organization

How well was the story organized relating to the elements of drama?

Excellent

The script is written in an organized fashion.
The story line is presented clearly. The script follows the plot structure beginning from the direct quote and follows the character's progress toward change.
Good

The script is somewhat organized. Thought was put into the organization of the plot beginning from the direct quote and follows the character's progress toward change., though some parts are not clear or thought out as well.
Fair

The script is not well organized. The plot does not follow the structure discussed in class.
Poor

The script is unorganized. The audience has trouble following the plot and/or the student has little to no plot involved.

How well has the student researched, developed, and delivered his/her character?

*Life and world of character is not illuminated by actor's performance.

*Student is doing little more than reading from the book.
Focus

Does the student retain focus (stay in character) throughout the entire performance?

Excellent

*Student stays completely immersed in their character throughout the entire performance.
*Student never breaks focus, even during missed lines/cues.
Good

*Student weaves in and out of character slightly throughout performance.
*Student subtly breaks focus when thinking of next line/cue or out of obvious nervousness.
Fair

*Student never truly immerses enough into their character to produce any kind of believability.
*Student's focus is easily broken; attention wavers often.
Poor

*Student makes little to no attempt at staying in any type of character.
*Student lacks focus and seems unprepared.
