LS 2B - Paragraphs This is a rubric for scoring basic paragraphs.
	Below Average Includes none of the components of a clear and structurally accurate paragraph. 0 pts	Average Includes some of the components of a clear and structurally accurate paragraph. 1 pts	Above Average Includes all of the components of a clear and structurally accurate paragraph. 2 pts
Topic Sentence 20 % The topic sentence of the paragraph should give the reader a good idea of what will be covered.	Below Average The paragraph does not begin with a topic sentence.	Average The topic sentence does not give reader enough information about the paragraph.	Above Average The topic sentence gives a good idea of what will be discussed in the paragraph.
Supporting Sentences 20 % Supporting sentences should relate to the topic sentence and give detail.	Below Average Supporting sentences do not relate to the topic sentence.	Average Supporting sentences relate to the topic sentence.	Above Average Supporting sentences relate to the topic sentence and use detail.
Ending Sentence 20 % The ending sentence should summarize the paragraph without using the same words as the topic sentence.	Below Average There is no ending sentence.	Average The ending sentence repeats topic sentence often using the same words.	Above Average The ending sentence summarizes paragraph without using same words as topic sentence.
Organization 20 % Ideas are presented in a sequential and logical manner.	Below Average No sequence or illogical sequence is used.	Average A basic sequence is used but 1-2 sentences are out of order.	Above Average A sequence is used and all sentences follow logical order.
Indention 5 % Paragraph is indented.	Below Average Paragraphs are not indented.	Average Paragraphs are indented at least half of the time.	Above Average Paragraphs are always indented.
Capitalization 5 % The paragraph and all proper nouns within it begin with a capital letter.	Below Average The paragraph does not begin with a capital letter and has more than 2 errors in capitalization.	Average The paragraph has 1-2 or more errors in capitalization.	Above Average All sentences within the paragraph begin with a capital letter and the paragraph has no other capitalization errors.
Punctuation 5 % Does the sentence contain the appropriate ending and other punctuation?	Below Average The sentence contains no ending punctuation or all punctuation is incorrect.	Average The sentence contains half or more errors in punctuation.	Above Average The sentence contains the correct ending punctuation.
Spelling 5 % How many words are spelled correctly?	Below Average The paragraph contains 3 or more mispelled words.	Average The paragraph contains 1-2 mispelled words.	Above Average All words in the paragraph are spelled correctly.
