Craftsmanship/ Skill/Risk 40 pts Neatness, precision, care. Evidence of experimentation and risk taking	Proficient The artwork shows advanced or outstanding craftsmanship, with clear attention to detail. High Quality. Strong evidence of experimentation and risk taking	Intermediate The artwork shows very good craftsmanship, with some attention to detail.Demonstrates some evidence of risk taking	Beginner The artwork shows average or basic craftsmanship and attention to detail. Shows some ambition towards risk taking.	Below Basic The artwork shows below average to very poor craftsmanship and little attention to detail. Carelessness. No risk taking,poor planning.

Understanding 20 pts Demonstration that art elements and principles are understood.	Proficient The artwork appears planned carefully; understanding of art elements and principles is clearly shown.	Intermediate The artwork is planned carefully; understanding of most art elements and principles is shown.	Beginner The art work is planned adequately; understanding of some art elements and principles shown.	Below Basic The artwork shows little to no evidence of understanding art elements and principles.
Creativity/ Originality 20 pts Inventiveness, expression of ideas and imagination.	Proficient The artwork demonstrates original personal expression and outstanding problem solving skills. Strong evidence of conceptual ideas. Demonstrates verve.	Intermediate The artwork demonstrates some personal expression and logical problem solving skills. Some evidence of thinking and planning.	Beginner The artwork demonstrates an average amount of personal expression. Some degree of success but sense of direction is not resolved.	Below Basic The artwork demonstrates little to no personal expression and problem solving skills. If source materials are used the student's voice is not clear.
Effort/Complexity 20 pts What it took to finish the project as well as possible, time dedicated to the project.	Proficient The student put forth extraordinary effort to complete the projects well as possible; extremely complex compositions for grade level. High Quality	Intermediate The student put forth the effort required to complete the project well; some complex compositions, although there may be some inconsistencies.	Beginner The student put forth the effort required to finish the project; average complexity overall. Problems are not successfully resolved	Below Basic The student put forth little to no the effort required to finish the project; shows little or no evidence of artistic complexity
