Criteria
	Exemplary 10 pts	Proficient 8 pts	Developing 6 pts	Beginning 4 pts
Scales Major, minor Chromatic	Exemplary The student plays each note accurately, and covers the full range of his/her instrument	Proficient The student plays accurately, missing 1 or 2 notes, covers the full range of his/her instrument	Developing The student misses several notes, plays much of the range of his/her instrument	Beginning The student misses many notes, plays a small range of the instrument
Tone	Exemplary The student plays with a full, rich, characteristic tone on all registers of the instrument	Proficient The student plays with a characteristic tone	Developing The student exhibits some flaws in production, ie thin tone, or forced sound	Beginning The student exhibits many production flaws, and is not characteristic of the instrument
Intonation	Exemplary The student is accurate throughout all ranges and registers	Proficient The student is accurate, yet may miss adjustments on some notes	Developing The student has a basic sense of intonation, yet makes no attempt to adjust pitch	Beginning The student isn't accurate, plays out of tune
Melodic Accuracy	Exemplary The student plays all pitches accurately	Proficient The student plays most pitches accurately	Developing The student plays many pitches inaccurately	Beginning The student plays numerous inaccurate pitches

Recommendation	Exemplary This student should be in wind ensemble	Proficient This student could be in wind ensemble, with some extra work	Developing	Beginning This student needs more work before being accepted into wind ensemble
Attitude and work ethic	Exemplary This student has a great and positive attitude with no attendance issues. Challenges are accepted	Proficient Student has a great attitude but isolated incidents. Challenges are frustrating but accepted	Developing Student has a negative attitude with isolated attendance issues. Challenges are not accepted and student does little to improve	Beginning Student has a continuous negative attitude with attendance problems as well. Student has given up trying to improve.
