Preschool Writing Rubric
	Pre-conventional 1 pts	Emerging 2 pts	Progressing 3 pts	Well Developed 4 pts
Draws self-portrait	Pre-conventional Random scribbles no connection to content	Emerging The student forms a circle for face with minimal facial characteristics (eyes, nose and mouth). Student communicates it is a picture of himself/herself.	Progressing The student draws a stick person with 8-10 parts and is able to communicate to class his portrait and family members.	Well Developed The student draws a picture with detail (greater than 10 parts) and color changes. He communicates to class what his picture is about, describing his family members.
Recognizeable figure/object	Pre-conventional Random scribbles with no connection to content.	Emerging The student draws some shapes representing objects and is able to communicate one favorite thing to class.	Progressing The student draws 1-2 figures that have some shape and form with minimal detail representing desired objects. He communicates to class two of his favorite things	Well Developed The student draws 3-4 recognizable figures representing his favorite things using a variety of shapes, details and colors. He communicates to his class details about himself and what he likes.
