Focus/Content The writing is about a specific main idea with supporting details	Need to Work Harder The writing is on more than one unfocused topic. The main idea is unclear and the sentences are not related to each other.	Fair The writing is about one topic but the idea is not developed and some of the sentences are not related to the topic.	Good The writing has one topic with supporting details.	Excellent The writing has one main topic with three or more supporting details. The writing has a beginning, middle and end.
Organization Good flow of ideas using main idea + details	Need to Work Harder Writing is not organized and story is not clear.	Fair Most of the writing is organized but some of it is not clear.	Good The writing is organized in a way that makes sense.	Excellent The writing is well organized. There is a good flow from the main idea to the supporting details.
