- Content and purpose of the writing are clear.

-Thesis is debatable and is evident in the argument, but is not clearly stated. Thesis is unclear, and it takes work for the reader to fish it out of the text. Or, thesis is self-evident and not debatable.

- Content is not comprehensive and /or persuasive.

- Major points are addressed, but not well supported.

- Content is inconsistent with regard to purpose and clarity of thought.

-There is no evident thesis.

- Content is incomplete.

- Major points are not clear and /or persuasive.

- Paper follows designated guidelines.

- Paper is the appropriate length as described for the assignment.

- Paper follows most guidelines.

- Paper is over/ under page length.
