Student greets other student, appearing attentive and maintaining eye contact. Proper pronunciation. Introductory information what has been taught and practiced.
Asks Questions
Poor
Student does not ask questions. Must be prompted or encouraged by other student to ask questions.
Fair
Student uses two questions mentioned in interpersonal task exercise. Responses sound constructed properly.
Excellent
Student uses one to two questions mentioned in the exercise. And shows creativity.
Answers Questions
Poor
Doesn't answer the questions in a proper sentence.
Fair
Student uses proper responses. Vocabulary and grammar are from the unit. A Little creativity is possible.
Excellent
Student uses responses, with various sentence lengths as appropriate, and various vocabulary and grammar constructions. Some creativity is evident.
Ease of Conversation
Poor
Many pauses and awkward beats. Conversation appears difficult. More questions are answered than are asked.
Fair
Some pauses in conversation; appears forced and unnatural but continues. Even balance between asking and answering.
Excellent
Conversation is continuous, with equal parts asking and answering. Very few to no pauses in conversation. Appears natural and enjoyable.
Negotiation of Meaning
Poor
Student does not assist other student in negotiation of meaning. Resorts strictly to English when unable to think of a word.
Fair
Student negotiates meaning with some difficulty. Student assists other student in negotiating meaning.
Excellent
Student is adept at negotiation of meaning. Assists other student in the process.
