Task Completion	Not Proficient Several boxes are not completed according to the directions on the chart.	Limited Proficiency 1 or 2 boxes are not completed according to directions on chart.	Proficient All boxes are completed according to directions on chart (summaries, number of notable people met).	Mastery Student has gone above and beyond. Instead of summarizing only one story for each required category, there are more than one. All categories have been filled out according to the directions on the chart.
Writing Standard	Not Proficient Student has not met the grade level standard of quality of writing. Many grammatical errors left unfixed.	Limited Proficiency Student has made more than 4 grammatical or syntax errors in their writing.	Proficient Student is proficient at sentence structure and grammar for most of the categories.	Mastery Student has mastered sentence structure and grammar for each box.
Social Component	Not Proficient Student consistently arrives late or disturbs class during the viewing period. Repeated offenses of cell phone use or sleeping can also earn a 1.	Limited Proficiency Student watches CNN 10 and does not disturb peers, but never contributes to the discussion or provides assistance to peers.	Proficient Student consistently engages in the viewing of CNN 10 and can contribute to a discussion when needed.	Mastery Student consistently engaged in the viewing of CNN 10, arriving on time so as not to disturb the class. Student contributes to the discussion of current events and is helpful to peers when needed.
