The topic is vaguely mentioned	Approaching Is only 2 sentences, lacks introductory detail, does not mention topic	Beginning Does not have an introduction or is one or fewer sentences.
Quality of Story (20)	Exemplary The narrative is vividly written with a great amount of detail and sensory images. It is easy to picture what happened. It is in chronological order using strong transitions	Proficient The narrative has detail but could use a little more. Not a lot of sensory images. It could use stronger transitions	Approaching The action of the narrative is vague or it doesn't tell much of a story, mostly a summary. There are no sensory images or transitions. The story may jump around a little.	Beginning It doesn't tell a story at all or jumps around so much that it is hard to follow. There are no transitions or flow to the writing.
Conclusion (5)	Exemplary Is 3-5 sentences, wraps up the story, reflects on the event	Proficient 3-5 sentence but could use more detail	Approaching Only two sentences, leaves the story hanging a little, is missing the personal reflection	Beginning One or fewer sentences or doesn't have a conclusion
