Entertaining Speech Entertaining Speech Students will give a speech on a topic of their choice to entertain an audience using various methods to incorporate humor in a speech. Introduction	Needs Improvement The speaker failed to introduce the speech. Or, the introduction was not useful in indicating what the speech was about.	Fair The speaker introduced the speech, but some details were unclear. The introduction lacked an attention getter and/or a preview of main points.	Good The speaker introduced the speech adequately, including an attention getter and a preview of the main points of the speech.	Excellent The speaker introduced the speech well, including an attention getter and a preview of main points of the speech. The speaker was enthusiastic about the topic and brought the audience into the speech.
Content	Needs Improvement The speech was difficult to follow due to a lack of organization. Little detail was given to support the main points.	Fair The speaker delivered adequate information about the topic. The speech lacked organization and/or detail to the extent that some main points were unclear.	Good The speaker used logical order and relevant details to deliver his or her information. Adequate transitions were used.	Excellent Logical, coherent organization and relevant information helped convey the speaker's message clearly. Detail and word choice were appropriate to the purpose. Smooth transitions were used.
Conclusion	Needs Improvement The speaker ended the speech abruptly without a conclusion. Or, the speaker did not restate the thesis & main points of the speech.	Fair The speaker somewhat restated the thesis & main points but not clearly. Or, the speaker concluded the speech in a disorganized fashion.	Good The speaker concluded the speech by adequately summarizing the main points.	Excellent The speaker quickly summarized the main points, referred back to the introduction to bring the speech full circle, and left the audience with a lasting impression!
Volume	Needs Improvement Audience had difficulty hearing and/or understanding much of the speech due to low volume	Fair The speaker could be heard most of the time, but at certain points was inaudible	Good The speaker spoke loudly and clearly enough to be easily understood	Excellent Consistent and effective volume and articulation were present in the speaker's voice; appropriate rate and pausing were employed

Eye Contact	Needs Improvement The speaker seldom looked at the audience.	Fair The speaker looked up occasionally and focused on only a few people during the speech.	Good The speaker looked at much of the audience often.	Excellent The speaker looked at all of the audience most of the time.
Emotional Delivery	Needs Improvement The speaker showed no emotion and seemed/sounded bored with their own speech. Very little vocal expression was shown.	Fair The speaker showed some emotion regarding the speech & topic. The speaker seemed/sounded bored with their own speech. Little vocal expression was shown.	Good The speaker showed emotion & seemed passionate about the speech & topic. The speaker used adequate vocal expression and rate. However, the audience may be left with some doubt about how the speaker feels.	Excellent The speaker showed emotion & seemed very passionate about the speech & topic. The speaker used consistent vocal expression. The audience could tell the speaker was enthusiastic about or affected by the topic.
Body Language	Needs Improvement The speaker's posture and expression indicated a lack of enthusiasm or comfortableness with the speech. Some movements were very distracting and made the speech difficult to follow.	Fair The speaker had some distracting and/or nervous movement during delivery. Facial expressions seemed forced or absent.	Good The speaker maintained adequate posture and non-distracting movement during the speech. Expressions were comfortable.	Excellent The speaker maintained good posture. Movements were purposeful and enhanced the delivery of the speech. Facial expressions were comfortable and showed enthusiasm for the topic.
Preparedness	Needs Improvement Student did not seem at all prepared to present	Fair The student was somewhat prepared, but it is clear that rehearsal was lacking	Good Student seemed pretty prepared but might have needed a couple more rehearsals	Excellent Student was completely prepared and had obviously rehearsed
