Grade 8 Poetry Rubric Grade 8 Poetry Rubric Students will create a poetry following specific forms and poetic devices. Students will also include some type of art form (original or otherwise) that best represents the poetry. Word Usage	Fair Student’s use of vocabulary is very basic.	Satisfactory Student’s use of vocabulary is more telling than showing.	Very Good Student’s use of vocabulary is routine and workable.	Excellent Student’s use of vocabulary is precise, vivid, and paints a strong clear and complete picture in the reader’s mind.
Form	Fair Poem is not written in the proper form.	Satisfactory Poem is somewhat written in the proper form.	Very Good Poem is mostly written in the proper form.	Excellent Poem is complete and follows its intended form.
Conventions	Fair There are 12 or more errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.	Satisfactory There are 8 - 11 errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.	Very Good There are 4 - 7 errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.	Excellent There are 3 or less errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
Presentaton	Fair The poem is poorly presented on the poster.	Satisfactory The poem is adequately presented. It is neat and tidy creating an acceptable presentation of the poem.	Very Good The poem is nicely presented and improves the presentation of the poem.	Excellent The poem is beautifully presented and really improves the presentation of the poem.
Effort	Fair Student’s work lacks understanding of the assignment.	Satisfactory Student’s work demonstrates some understanding of the assignment.	Very Good Student’s work demonstrates an understanding of the assignment.	Excellent Student’s work demonstrates a complete understanding of the assignment and goes beyond the requirements.
Poetic Devices	Fair Student's work does not include any of the poetic devices as instructed. Poetic devices are inaccurate.	Satisfactory Student's work includes very few poetic devices as instructed and poetic devices are inaccurate.	Very Good Student's work includes some poetic devices as instructed. Poetic devices may and/or may not be accurate.	Excellent Student's work includes all poetic devices as instructed. Poetic devices are accurate.
