Electrocardiogram Electrocardiogram In the medical office, hospital or ambulatory care setting, it is the medical assistant, patient care assistant or electrocardiography technician who records the ECG; therefore, special knowledge and skills are necessary and including the correct ECG procedure: patient preparation, operation of the ECG machine, troubleshooting artifacts, mounting, and labeling the ECG; and maintenance and care of the equipment.
