CPR Video Rubric 
Students will assess a victim in need of Basic Life Support (CPR and Rescue Breathing), and then perform the proper intervention as a group of 2-4 students acting as the first responders. The students will be assigned a situation and need to respond appropriately.

Check scene for safety

Students assess that the scene is safe to respond to. An unsafe scene could potentially have smoke/fire, downed wires, moving vehicles, spilled chemicals, etc).

Poor

Student does not check the scene for safety.
Fair

Checks scene for safety but does not respond appropriately.
Excellent

Checks scene for safety and adjusts successfully.
Check responsiveness and breathing

"Hey hey, are you okay?" Observes, feels, and/or listens to the victim to determine responsiveness.

Poor

Student doesn't check for responsiveness and breathing (doesn't tap and shout; doesn't look, listen, and feel).
Fair

Needs prompting from another group member to check for responsiveness OR breathing, or does so incorrectly. Is not loud enough or does not check the victim sufficiently.
Excellent

Checks for responsiveness AND breathing without prompting, and does so correctly (loud questioning, vigorous shaking of the victim)
Activate emergency response

Announces for someone to call 911 and the caller shouts that they are calling. Student obtaining AED announces that they are going to get it and announce when it is on scene.

Poor

Students forget to call 911 and get AED.
Fair

Needs prompting from other group members to call 911 and get AED.
Excellent

Calls 911 and gets AED, and a loud announcement to the group that 911 was called and the AED has arrived.
Chest compressions

If patient is unresponsive, 30 compressions are delivered at a rate of 100-120/ min. Student is positioned directly above the victim with locked elbows and the heel of their hands as the driving force.

Poor

Student does less than 30 compressions or does them at a vastly incorrect speed (should be 100-120/min)
Fair

Does 30 compressions but they are done at an incorrect speed or without proper technique.
Excellent

Successfully performs 30 compressions at 100-120/min, compressing the chest 2 inches, before giving breaths, with proper technique.
Breathing

Between sets of compressions

Poor

Student forgets to do 2 breaths.
Fair

Needs prompting to do 2 breaths, fails to open the airway first, or performs incorrectly.
Excellent

Successfully performs 2 breaths, lasting 2 seconds each, allowing the chest to rise and fall with each breath.
CPR completion

Students complete CPR on their patient when each student has done two sets of compressions (30 compressions, 2 breaths, 30 compressions, 2 breaths) and ONE round of shocking with the AED.

Poor

Students do not complete CPR on their patient, missing an entire portion (one student doesn't perform compressions and rescue breaths, or AED shock is not delivered).
Fair

Students partially complete CPR. (If compressions/rescue breaths are not completed or AED is not allowed to run a full shock).
Excellent

Students successfully complete CPR on their patient.
Professionalism

Students maintain a professional demeanor during the entire video without laughing, giggling, having inappropriate side conversations, or acting inappropriately with their victim.

Poor

Students did not maintain professionalism.
Fair
Excellent

Students did maintain professionalism.
Video Quality

Video quality is maintained throughout (everyone is heard and seen during the entire video.

Quality is not maintained throughout.
