Structure	Excellent Students correctly writes 4 paragraphs and include an introduction sentence and closing sentence.	Very Good Students write 4 paragraphs.	Satisfactory Student attempts to write 4 paragraphs.	Needs Improvement Student does not write 4 paragraphs.
Content	Excellent Student stays on topic and each paragraph contains sentences with elaboration.	Very Good Student stays on topic with most details in each paragraph. Student attempt to elaborate on some details.	Satisfactory Student may be off topic of main idea and contains only 2 details.	Needs Improvement There are less than four details that support the main idea about the students life.
Spelling	Excellent There are 2-3 grade level spelling mistakes. That do not get in the way of the meaning.	Very Good There are 4-6 grade level spelling mistakes that do not get in the way of meaning.	Satisfactory There are 6 or more spelling mistakes and some get in the way of meaning.	Needs Improvement There are multiple spelling mistakes that get in the way of meaning.
Conventions/Grammar	Excellent There are few if no run-on sentences, and no punctuation or capitalization errors.	Very Good There are some run-ons, or punctuation or capitalization errors.	Satisfactory There are many run-ons, and punctuation and capitalization errors.	Needs Improvement There are many errors which causes difficulty in understanding the topic.
