Prepared for Setting

student has necessary materials and preplans for quiet activity in free time

Proficient

Has a novel or other reading matter, and/or a plan of writing, doodling, or otherwise quietly spending time while others are testing; and, uses strategy without prompt
Developing

May have an idea of how to fill in time; small distraction with compliance following an adult redirect; does not continue
Beginning

unprepared for extra free time;
uses testing strategies

following verbal reminder to group by testing administrator

Proficient

reviews entire subsection first; returns to hard questions for more deliberation; answers all questions; rechecks own work for completion or raises hand for for adult review (initiating self advocacy); complete sentences for answers
Developing

reasonable compliance; may not complete all questions, requiring 2 or more redirect/prompts; written responses are basic and brief, but complete
Beginning

does not review of entire subsection first; does not go back for hard questions - does not answer all questions, requiring adult monitor; no self advocacy; brief phrases for answers
Self-Advocacy

Shows evidence of addressing personal needs

Proficient

alert, appears physically comfortable; prepared with water (optional); attentive to directions; ; takes breaks when offered
Developing

may require a prompt to listen to orally read directions; inconsistent in availing self of physical breaks
Beginning

excessive fatigue; circles under eyes, falls asleep on test booklet; small signs of physical discomfort
Attendance

Proficient

on time, present for entire testing period

no more than 10 minutes late or leaving early during testing period
