Critical Element 1: Position

Poor

Server is not standing behind the baseline, or on the duece side of the court. Shoulder alignment parallel to net. Feet are perpendicular to net.
Fair

Server is standing behind the baseline, on the duece side of the court, with shoulder alignment. Shoulder alignment parallel to net. Feet are perpendicular to net.
Good

Server is standing behind the baseline, on the duece side of the court, with shoulder alignment angled slightly toward deuce service box. Front foot is angled towards net post and back foot is parallel to baseline.
Excellent

Critical Element 2: Backscratch

Poor

Racquet head is brought behind head so that strings are pointed towards the sky and elow is angled at 90 degrees from the body.

Racquet head is brought behind head so that strings are flush to the back of the head and elbow is pointed at an angle less than degrees from the body.
Good

Racquet head is brought behind head so that strings are flush to the back of the head and elbow is pointed at an angle less than 45 degrees from the body.

Racquet head is brought behind head so that strings are flush to the back of the head and elbow is pointed straight back inline with the body.
Critical Element 3: Contact/Toss

Poor

Toss is thrown behind the body, no contact is made.
Fair

Toss is thrown less than half the length of full extension of the arm and outside of a one-foot length in front of the server. Contact is at half the length of full extension.
Good

Toss is at a hight just slightly higher than full extension of the arm and within a one-foot length in front of the server.Contact is at more than half full extension but less than full extension of the arm and made slightly in front of the body.
Excellent

Toss is at a hight just slightly higher than full extension of the arm and within one-foot length in front of the server.Contact is at full extension of the arm and made slightly in front of the body.
Critical Element 4: Finish

Poor

The follow-through is a downwards motion that finshes right after the point of contact.
Fair

The follow-through is a downwards motion that finishes on the same side of the body as the racquet hand.
Good

The follow-through is a downwards motion across the body that finishes at the opposite knee.
Excellent

The follow-through is in a downwards motion across the body and finishes under the opposite arm.
