Journal entries must demonstrate thought about what is being learned, how it is applied, and how it relates to prior learning.

Excellent

Personal thoughts and feelings about the skills and knowledge being learned are included throughout the entry. Reflections demonstrate an understanding of how the student's skills are developing and where improvements are needed.
Good

Entry includes some personal thoughts and feelings. An attempt was made to consider what is being learned at a slightly deeper level. Student considers some gaps in knowledge or addresses some challenges.
Fair

Entry includes some thoughts and feeling about what is being learned, but the reflection is generally superficial and does not promote growth.
Poor

Entry does not demonstrate thought on the process and skills being learned.

Examples of personal experiences must be included to show an attempt has been made to complete the activities on which the reflection is based.

Excellent

Several examples of personal experience with the skills being learned are included leaving no doubt that the activities have been attempted. Student connects personal experiences with reflections on the skills and knowledge being learned.
Good

Entry includes at least one example which demonstrates personal experience with the skills being learned. An attempt is made to connect the personal experience to what is being learned.
Fair

Entry includes personal experiences, but they may be lacking in some detail. Some attempt is made to relate the experiences to what is being learned.
Poor

Entry does not include personal experiences or includes only experiences irrelevant to the skills being learned.

Entries must be on topic and address the prompts provided. Grammar and spelling are not to be considered, but the entries must be understandable.

Excellent

Entry is on topic and well developed. Student addresses all prompts given. The writing is clear and easy to follow.
Good

Entry is mostly on topic. Student addresses most of the prompts directly, but may have missed one or not discussed it fully. Entry is written clearly.
Fair

Entry strays from the topic some, but generally gets to the point. Some prompts are not addressed. Writing may be somewhat difficult to follow, but is comprehensible with some effort.
Poor

Entry is completely off topic and does not address the prompts. Writing cannot be comprehended without difficulty.
