Class Participation Self-Assessment 
Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be evaluated. All students are expected to participate in class! Students should understand that their participation mark begins at 0 and then is built up through active participation. While this is a self-assessment, I may raise or lower points based upon classroom observation.

Excellent

Good

In the same week, student is late to class twice and/or needs to go to locker to retrieve materials.
Poor

In the same week, student is late to class three or more times and/or needs to go to locker to retrieve materials.
ENGAGEMENT

(1) begins working on warm-up activity immediately after the bell rings (2) asks appropriate questions (3) participates in pair/group discussions (4) does not use cell phone at all (5) does not distract others with talking or other inappropriate behavior during instruction (6) takes notes without being prompted (7) does not work on other subjects during instruction or in-class activities

Student always meets engagement expectations throughout the entire week.
Good

Student does not meet engagement expectations in one of the areas one time during the week.
Fair

Student does not meet engagement expectations either twice in the same week or in two of the areas during the same week.
Poor

Student does not meet engagement expectations either three or more times in the same week or in three or more of the areas during the same week.
ATTITUDE

Excellent

Student always presents a positive attitude towards the course, his/her fellow students, and his/her instructor.
Good

Student usually presents a positive attitude towards the course, his/her fellow students, and his/her instructor.
Fair

Student sometimes presents a positive attitude towards the course, his/her fellow students, and his/her instructor.
Poor

Student never presents a positive attitude towards the course, his/her fellow students, and his/her instructor.
