Use of Canvas Space	Excelling The entire canvas is filled beautifully, with no white spots left unpainted (unless they were added later with white paint).	Meeting There is little or no white spots left on the canvas.	Approaching A small amount of white is left on the canvas.	Not Yet A large portion of white is left unpainted on the canvas.
Use of materials	Excelling The student used tools in a skillful, safe, and responsible manner. Their workspace was clean and tidy at all times and they thoroughly cleaned up after themselves.	Meeting For the most part, the student used tools in a responsible manner. Their workspace was tidy.	Approaching The student put a minimal amount of effort into ensuring they were safe and responsible with their tools. Their work space was messy.	Not Yet The student made no attempt to use the tools in a responsible manner. Their workspace was very messy and they did not clean up properly upon completion of the project.
Use of colours to create emotion	Excelling It is very easy to determine the emotion the student is trying to convey. At least two colours have been used in the painting.	Meeting Emotion is communicated with the use of at least one colour.	Approaching It is difficult to discern what emotion is being expressed by the student. Only one colour has been used.	Not Yet The piece has not been fully painted, and there in no emotion expressed.
Appreciation	Excelling The student was an eager participant in this art lesson and demonstrated a keen interest in impasto painting.	Meeting The student demonstrated an interest in this art project and communicated this.	Approaching The student demonstrated little interest in this art project.	Not Yet The student was disengaged and clearly demonstrated that they did not have an appreciation for this art project.
Use of Impasto Paint	Excelling The student successfully made and applied their impasto paint. The paint was applied in a thick and consistent manner and there is clearly a 3D design.	Meeting The student did a fairly good job making and applying their impasto paint. The paint is thick and consistently applied in most areas, however, there may be a few thin areas that need work. Also, the student might need to work on making their impasto more 3D.	Approaching The student had some difficulty making and applying their impasto paint. The application of paint is inconsistent in many areas and there is little or no 3D component.	Not Yet The student failed to make and/or apply their impasto paint correctly. The paint is not applied consistently and there is no #D component.
