Student sometimes arrives with unresearched story ideas or stories that have weak news value. Sometimes contributes general comments and participates in discussions and/or activities. Does not always come prepared to work and/or engage in group activities.
Needs Improvement
Student often arrives with no story ideas. Rarely provides comments and participates in discussions and/or activities. Sometimes is disruptive in class.
Poor
Student offers no ideas for assignments. Provides no comments or input in weekly assignment meetings. Often disruptive in class meeting.
Participation

Always is productive and responsible in collaborative tasks. Is able to constructively engage interpersonal issues with other group members. May assume a leadership role. Perfect attendance or misses one class.
Good
Frequently productive and responsible in collaborative tasks. Is usually able to constructively engage interpersonal issues with other group members. May assume a leadership role with varying degrees of success. Has two unexcused absences.
Fair
Sometimes productive and responsible in collaborative tasks. May have some interpersonal issues with others in the group, but has difficulty engaging them constructively. Has three unexcused absences.
Needs Improvement
Rarely contributes to group and collaborative activities. Does just enough work to get by. May have some interpersonal issues with others in the group, but has difficulty engaging them constructively. Has 4 unexcused absences.
Poor
Is not productive in group/collaborative activities and relies on others to complete task. Has 5 or more unexcused absences.

Needs Improvement
Rarely makes an effort in class activities. Falls below expectations of skills. Contributes little to overall product.
Poor
Falls well below expectations of work assignments and skills. Makes very little contribution to overall product.
