Content	Poor It is not evident that anything was the subject matter and what it communicates is not evident.	Fair Students had a subject matter in mind when they took their picture.	Good Students gave some thought about the subject matter and how it may work to communicate an idea or feeling.	Excellent Students gave great thought into how to communicate an idea or feeling through their photograph. It is evident that the student had something specific in mind that they were trying to achieve.
Composition	Poor Photograph was taken randomly with no evidence that consideration was given to the objects in the background.	Fair Students may not have thought about the placement of things in the picture, though a main object may be identifiable.	Good Students thought about the details of the photographs and what should be included in it. Students were aware of the background.	Excellent Student gave great consideration as to what to include and demonstrated awareness of the details in the photographs, whether in the background or the main subject in the picture.
Rule of Thirds	Poor Students consistently placed objects in the center of their photograph even though they are asked not to do that in most cases.	Fair Students were not clear or were inconsistent with the placement of objects in their photograph.	Good Student attempted to show an understanding of the rule of thirds by not placing main objects in the center of the photograph.	Excellent Student demonstrates a good understanding of the rule of thirds by purposefully placing the main object of the photo off to one of the sides of the imaginary grid for a striking composition.
