SAM Cultural Dance Solo/Group Assignment 
Students will be producing a solo or group dance based on cultural theme/song. The elements of dance should be used to enhance their performance. The dance can be a traditional cultural dance, an adaption of a cultural dance or a combination of various cultural dance or a completely original dance based on one or several cultures.

Choreography

Movements and music were reflective of their book or the emotions they feel from the book and not just strung together...there was a thoughtful purpose for each phrase of movements.

Group or soloist accomplished the task extremely and related the dance movements to the cultural theme/song.
Movement Knowledge

Concentrate on transitions, andsequencing

Poor (R)

Dancer(s) is unprepared and unsure of the choreography. There is no sense of timing or direction. Made lots of mistakes. transitions are very weak.
Needs Improvement (level 1)

Dancer(s) is somewhat unprepared and unsure of the choreography. Timing or direction is unclear. Made 5-6 mistakes. Transitions are choppy.
Fair (level 2)

Dancer(s) somewhat knew movement. Have an ok sense of timing & direction. Made 4-5 mistakes. Transitions are ok.
Good (level 3)

Dancer(s) knows the movement well. They stay together, and have a good sense of timing & direction. 2-3 mistakes made. Transitions are good.
Excellent (level 4)

Dancer(s) knows the movement extremely well. Confident and don't need to follow anyone else. Dancer(s) has a great sense of timing & direction. Dance is clean and well rehearsed. Transitions are natural and seamless.
Elements of Dance

Included at least 3 out of the 5 choreography tools/devices...Body, space, time, energy and relationship.

Poor (R)

Dancer(s) not include any of the elements of dance.
Needs Improvement (level 1)

Dancer(s) was unclear of the choreography techniques and included only one of the skills.
Fair (level 2)

Some of the elements of dance are present. Dancer(s) did not clearly understand what the elements of dance are.
Good (level 3)

All of the elements of dance are present and the dancer (s) understand what they are.
Excellent (level 4)

Strong and consistent evidence that the dancer(s) not only understand the elements of dance, but are able to use the elements to add interest and variety to their dance.
Teamwork

Cohesiveness, mutual support, and postive interactions

Poor (R)

Dancer(s) did not act as team. Not all students participating. Clear division amongst members.
Needs Improvement (level 1)

Dancer(s) show few evidence for working as a team. Not all students represented or participating.
Fair (level 2)

Dancer(s) show some evidence for working as a team. Not all students represented or participating.
