Characters	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the characters by name.	Fair Student can only identify one of the characters by name.	Very Good Student can identify some characters by name.	Excellent Student can identify all main characters by name.
Setting	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify where or when the story takes place.	Fair Student can identify where the story takes place.	Very Good Student can identify where and when.	Excellent Student can identify where and when the story takes place and can give a detail about it.
Problem/Solution	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify any problem in the story.	Fair Student can identify one minor problem in the story but no solution.	Very Good Student can identify the problem and solution in the story with little detail.	Excellent Student can identify the major problem and solution in the story with details.
Plot	Needs Improvement Student does not correctly identify the plot of the story.	Fair Student identifies some of the plot, but has misinformation.	Very Good Student can identify the plot with little detail.	Excellent Student can identify the plot with detail.
Illutrations	Needs Improvement The illustrations are careless and do not have to do with the story.	Fair Some illustrations depict the story and they are careless.	Very Good The illustrations depict the story but are careless.	Excellent The illustrations are neat and depict the story.
