BIOLOGY Wikispace Rubric BIOLOGY Wikispace Rubric Rubric to evaluate student-created wikis. Group of 3 or 4, covers specific biology topic. A great wiki will be very user-friendly, simple in design, and educational to anyone! BASIC REQUIREMENTS: For your website to be graded, you must have the following: The wikispace must have 12-15 outside source links. At least 6 pages (not including the home page). At least 3 videos embedded in the site. At least 2 photos/images per page (total of 12 photos minimum). At least 3 activities related to the content. At least 3 spreadsheets or documents (embedded or linked) for reader to use or print. 1 embedded Keynote (or Voicethread) presentation about your topic. All group members must edit and contribute to the site. Each website must make the teacher a member. Purpose & Theme Throughout Website Is it easy to tell that the purpose is the building block of the site? Does the site stick to the stated theme?	Poor The site is completely lacking in continuity. Very few linked sites that do not relate to the theme/purpose.	Developing The site has a few pages that stick to the theme, but for the most part is incongruous. Linked sites are not chosen well and do not relate to the theme/purpose.	Average Almost all pages stick to the site's main purpose and themes, most pages are easily related to others. Linked sites are chosen well but do not all relate to the theme/purpose.	Outstanding All pages follow the site's main purpose and theme, all pages are easily related to others and are congruous. Objectivity The goal of your website is not to share your opinion, but to give solid factual information. It is up to your group if you want to include an "opinion page," but it is not a requirement.	Poor Almost all images, videos, text and links support a specific opinion or agenda. The author's opinion interjected where it is not necessary or where it is incorrect to insert.	Developing Several images, text, videos and links support a specific opinion or agenda. Images, videos or links or text have been used/modified/added to support a particular agenda or opinion. Fonts/Text Your site should be easy to read, but not have distracting text changes!	Poor A wide variety of fonts, styles, colors and point sizes is used. This detracts from the site, making it confusing for the viewer.	Developing The fonts are somewhat consistent between pages, headings, and paragraphs. The site has too many inconsistent changes in font color, style or point sizes.	Average The fonts are consistent, easy to read and point size, color or style vary appropriately for headings and text.	Outstanding The fonts are consistent, easy to read and point size and color vary appropriately for pages, headings and text. Related content is evident because of text color/size/style changes. Use of font styles (italic, bold, underline) is consistent and improves readability.
Graphics This is all about the images you have chosen to use. Make sure you are using high quality pictures, images and illustrations!	Poor Graphics seem randomly chosen. They are of low quality, and distract the reader.	Developing Few of the graphics are related to the theme/purpose of the site. Few are of good quality.	Average Graphics are related to the theme/purpose of the site. They are of good quality and somewhat enhance reader understanding.	Outstanding Graphics are related to the theme/purpose of the site. They are thoughtfully cropped (and edited), not just taken directly from a google image search. They are of high quality and enhance reader interest or understanding.
Page Layout When someone comes to your page, will they be excited? Bored? Confused?	Poor Web pages are cluttered or confusing. It is difficult to locate important elements.	Developing Web pages have a usable layout, but may appear busy or boring. Reader can locate some of the important elements, but some parts don't follow a logical order.	Average Web pages have an agreeable and usable layout. It is easy to locate all important elements, and most parts follow a logical order.	Outstanding Web site has an exceptionally attractive and very user-friendly layout. It is very easy to locate all important elements, and all parts follow a logical order.
Website Navigation If someone is cruising around your site, can they get from place to place with relative ease?	Poor Reader cannot return to the "Home" page. Reader cannot view all pages.	Developing Reader finds it difficult return to the "Home" page. Reader finds it difficult to view all pages.	Average Reader can return to the "Home" page with relative ease. Reader can view all pages.	Outstanding Reader can return to the "Home" page easily from any place on the site. Reader finds it very easy to view all pages. It is easy for the reader to travel between pages.
Spelling and Grammar Your goal is to make this website look as professional as possible. Correct spelling & grammar are an integral part of this: use "professional register," not casual register (AKA "internet lingo").	Poor There are too many errors in spelling (more than 11), punctuation or grammar. It is hard/impossible to read the information. The reader is distracted by errors.	Developing There are many errors (between 4-10) in spelling, punctuation or grammar. It is challenging for the reader to get through the information.	Average There are minimal errors (between 2-3) in spelling, punctuation or grammar. The reader is not distracted by these errors.	Outstanding There are absolutely no errors in spelling, punctuation or grammar. The site contains excellent sentence structure and word use.
Content What you choose to include in your site. Do your research: don't include things in the site just because they're flashy!	Poor There are more than 4 inaccuracies in the content, and/or the content is unrelated to theme.	Developing 2-3 pieces of the information provided on the website is inaccurate. Some of the content is related to the theme of the site.	Average 0-1 bits of information on the website are inaccurate. The content is all related to the site's theme.	Outstanding All information on the website is 100% accurate. All content is related to the theme of the site. Content is also interrelated with itself!
Content Navigation Activities and links are well planned and thought out. It makes sense to an outsider how they should go through the pages.	Poor Students have 1 page of activities. These activities do not make sense in how they are arranged/grouped.	Developing Students have more than one page of activities. Some of these activities make sense in how they are grouped.	Average Students have more than one logical page of activities. They make sense in how they are grouped as well as ordered in the pages.	Outstanding Students have 2 or more logical pages of activities. They make sense in how they are grouped as well as ordered in the pages. Authors have included a "content navigation" page or something that directs the user through the activities.
Embedded Presentation You must educate your audience. This is one of the best ways to get them all of the information they need in order to successfully complete activities on your site.	Poor Timing is poor. Slides are not clear. The are difficult to read (because of spelling/grammar or font/sizes). Information is very hard to understand, most of it doesn't make sense.	Developing Timing is inadequate. Some slides are easy to read, others are very difficult to understand. Some information is easy to understand, but most of it does not make sense. Activities Whatever you want your reader to do, make sure it's connected to the content and educational!	Poor Chosen activities are not modified to suit audience. Interest Within the content you have chosen, have you been able to make it interesting? Is it fun or exciting for someone to read your information? to look at your videos? to complete any activities on the site?	Poor The authors have not created interesting content that compels the reader to continue.	Developing The authors attempted to present the information in an interesting way. Very few parts are actually interesting to the reader.	Average The authors have made the content of the site interesting to the readers. The reader finds most of the content interesting.	Outstanding The authors have made an exceptional attempt to make the content of the site interesting to the readers. The reader finds it difficult to stop reading all of the content, watching videos or doing activities!
Collaboration Depending on how you choose to create the site, you may all work on pages together or you may delegate different responsibilities to different group members.	Poor Students had difficulty working with one or more group members. Communication between group members was nonexistent. Pages do not flow well together because not all group members could agree on decisions.	Developing Students had difficulty working with one or more group members. Some pages flow well together, but group members could not agree on some decisions.	Average Student works well with other group members. Most issues/problems were settled peacefully. All but 1-2 pages flow well together, group members could agree on all major decisions.	Outstanding Student works very well with other group members. Many of the group members looked to him/her for help, and the student readily gave assistance. Any issues/problems that arose were settled peacefully. All pages flow well together, group members could agree on all decisions, major or minor.
Citations At times, it is nearly impossible to create 100% original content. That's okay, as long as you are giving credit where credit is due!
