Perform hand hygiene. Identify the pt (2 identifiers). Introduce yourself. Explain the procedure. Proper pt position (legs uncrossed, feet on floor, arm at level of heart).
Find pt radial pulse. Count the pulse for 1 full minute. Apply the proper size BP cuff. Determine how high cuff should be pumped up for BP reading.
Inflate cuff to pre-determined amount. Competently adjust the valve to inflate and deflate the cuff.
Read the gauge with confidence. Quickly deflated the cuff after getting BP reading. Removed the cuff and informed the pt of the BP reading.
