Planning	Poor There is no evidence of any planning.	Fair There is little evidence of planning.	Good There is some evidence of planning, but not much has changed.	Excellent There is evidence of careful planning where changes have been made to create a better picture.
Visually Appealing	Poor The work is sloppy and incomplete.	Fair The work is completed, but needs more color is is somewhat sloppy.	Good The work is put together well, but needs more color.	Excellent The work is put together well and very colorful.
Creativity	Poor Student seemed to copy other Texas symbols and was not able to produce anything original.	Fair The art work was interesting, but lacked originality.	Good Student was creative in their art work, and was a good representation of Texas.	Excellent Student used own ideas and created an interesting and innovative symbol to represent Texas. Did not copy any other symbols already known to stand for Texas. Unusal, but works extremely well.
Elements of Design	Poor The student did the minimum or the artwork was never completed.	Fair The student did the assignment adequately, yet it shows lack of planning and little evidence that an overall composition was planned.	Good The artwork shows that the student applied the principles of design while using one or more elements effectively; showed an awareness of filling the space adequately.	Excellent Planned carefully, made several sketches, and showed an awareness of the elements and principles of design; chose color scheme carefully, used space effectively.
Neatness	Poor Sloppy	Fair Student seemed to rush through the art project and did not put all of their effort into ensuring that it was completed in a neat manner.	Good Student produced a nice peice of art that showed some interest in completing.	Excellent Student showed care and took their time to ensure they produced a high quality art project.
