Literal Comprehension 4 pts Summary	Emerging The student shows total understanding of literal meaning of a text.	Developing The student shows understanding of literal meaning of a text most of the time.	Efficient The student shows barely any understanding of literal meaning of a text.
determine the meaning of unknown wo 4 pts Author's Purpose	Emerging The student is confident and skilled in deducing the meaning of unknown vocabulary from context clues.	Developing The student tries to figure out meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary and is accurate some of the time.	Efficient The student shows inability of deducing meaning from unknown vocabulary without the help of a dictionary.Makes barely any attempt.
Inference 4 pts Drawing Conclusions	Emerging The student is easily able to reassemble disconnected clues and confidently connects implied information.	Developing The student shows ability to understand inferential clues but still lacks total clarity in inference of a text.	Efficient The student finds it difficult to pick up clues to give meaning in context.
